How to Compare an Outdoor Advertising Quote Before You Booking

Outdoor Advertising Quote Before You Booking

Compare an outdoor advertising quote by converting every offer into the same three figures: total all-in cost, verified audience delivered, and cost per day of real exposure. That discipline matters more each quarter: the Outdoor Media Association reported Q2 2026 revenue of $385 million, up 5.58 per cent, so vague quotes now cost buyers more than ever.

Two quotes with the same headline price can deliver wildly different audiences, hours and obligations. Below: what a complete quote lists, the five numbers that make offers comparable, how to check audience claims, and the contract terms that move the price after you sign.

The eight line items every outdoor advertising quote must show

A complete outdoor advertising quote lists eight things: the asset or site, the exposure period in days or hours, the audience figure and its source, production and creative, installation or file setup, operating costs, reporting, and the cancellation terms, all with GST shown separately.

Anything missing from that list is a cost you will meet later. Fixed-site sellers often quote media space only, then add skins, printing and installation crews as separate invoices. Digital screens usually skip production but may charge for content changes mid-flight.

A truck or trailer quote that omits driver hours, fuel, parking permits for stationary activations, or the reporting fee is not a full price. It is an opening bid.

Insist on one total figure with the breakdown beneath it; a supplier who hides the parts cannot be compared on the whole.

The five numbers that make two quotes comparable

Two outdoor advertising quotes become comparable once you reduce each to five numbers: all-in cost, exposure hours, verified audience, cost per exposure hour, and cost per thousand verified contacts.

Start with the all-in cost including production, install, reporting and GST. Divide it by the hours your message is actually visible, not the calendar days of the contract. A four-week static board is visible for 672 hours. A digital screen sharing a six-ad loop is visible roughly 112 of those hours. A mobile truck booked for eight-hour shifts over five days is visible for 40 hours, but every one of them sits where you chose.

Next, take the verified audience figure and divide the all-in cost by it, in thousands. That gives you a cost per thousand contacts you can place beside any other quote in any format or city.

How do you check the audience numbers behind the prices for advertising on a billboard?

You check the audience numbers by asking which measurement system produced them and when the data was collected. Since 16 March 2026, MOVE has been the sole industry currency for planning, buying and reporting fixed-site outdoor advertising in Australia, so any fixed-site quote without a MOVE figure is quoting from memory.

MOVE reports audiences hour by hour across 365 days, covers metro and 21 regional areas, and replaces the old opportunity-to-see metric with Visibility Adjusted Contacts, which filters for people who could realistically see the sign. Ask for the VAC figure, not the raw traffic count, because that gap is often where a cheap site gets expensive.

Mobile formats sit outside MOVE, which means the burden of proof shifts to the supplier. Ask how impressions are counted, whether the count is device-based or estimated, and whether you receive route logs after the campaign. Our Mobilytics reporting records unique impressions, busiest times and satellite-mapped routes, and that is the standard any mobile quote should meet.

Static, digital and mobile quotes run on different clocks

Static, digital and mobile outdoor advertising quotes price time differently, so you must convert each to exposure hours before comparing them. A static site sells a four-week cycle, a digital screen sells a share of a loop, and a mobile asset sells a day rate.

A digital slot at one sixth of a loop needs to be a sixth of the static price to match it hour for hour. A mobile day rate looks steep next to a weekly static figure until you notice it delivers 100 per cent share of voice at the exact intersection, event or suburb you nominated.

Set each quote against the 2026 billboard rate bands before you accept a “market rate” claim.

Five things a mobile OOH campaign booking needs before confirmation

A mobile OOH campaign booking is confirmed once five things are locked: the route or stationary positions, the operating hours per day, the creative files to specification, any council or event permits, and a signed scope with a deposit paid.

Route sign-off comes first because it drives everything else. Kilometres per shift set fuel, tolls and driver hours, and a CBD route at lunchtime delivers a different audience from the same route at 9pm. Ask for the route on a map, with times, before approving the price.

Printed mobile billboard trailers need artwork earlier than mobile digital trucks, which take a file and can change content between shifts. A quote should state the artwork deadline and the cost of missing it.

Check what the supplier does when a day is lost to weather, a road closure or a vehicle fault. A make-good clause that reschedules the shift at no cost is worth more than a small discount.

The contract terms that quietly change the price

Six contract terms change the real price of an outdoor advertising quote after signing: cancellation notice, minimum booking length, rate-card versus net pricing, make-good policy, proof-of-performance obligations, and payment terms.

Cancellation is an expensive one. Fixed-site contracts commonly require notice before the cycle starts, and a late pull-out can forfeit the full media fee. Mobile bookings carry shorter windows, but they still exist and belong in writing.

Rate-card versus net catches new buyers. A quote showing a rate-card figure and a discount can look generous while the net figure still sits above a competitor’s flat price. Compare net totals only.

Proof of performance should be a deliverable, not a favour: posting photographs and dates for fixed sites, route logs, impression counts and time stamps for mobile. If the quote does not commit to a report, the report will not arrive.

How Moving Media prices a mobile OOH campaign quote

At Moving Media, every mobile OOH campaign quote is scoped in full before sign-off, so the figure you compare is the figure you pay.

Pricing depends on asset type, location, campaign length and customisation, set out line by line: asset, days and hours, route, creative and file setup, permits, Mobilytics reporting, and GST. Multi-asset and long-term campaigns qualify for tiered pricing and bundled packages.

Outdoor advertising quote questions, answered

How many outdoor advertising quotes should you get before booking?

Get three quotes covering at least two formats, because a single-format comparison hides the format premium itself. Two static quotes show which site is cheaper; a static, a digital and a mobile quote show which medium suits the brief. Convert all three to cost per exposure hour first.

Is the cheapest billboard quote ever the best value?

The cheapest billboard quote is the best value only when its verified audience, exposure hours and inclusions match the dearer options. A low rate on a site with poor approach angles, short dwell time or a shared loop often costs more per thousand contacts than a dearer quote with full share of voice.

Does an outdoor advertising quote include GST in Australia?

An outdoor advertising quote in Australia should state whether GST is included, and business-to-business quotes commonly show the figure exclusive of GST with the tax listed separately. Compare quotes on the same basis, all inclusive or all exclusive, and confirm the treatment in writing before you sign.

How long is an outdoor advertising quote valid for?

Most outdoor advertising quotes hold for 14 to 30 days, and availability is never guaranteed until a deposit is paid. Fixed sites sell while you compare in busy periods, and mobile assets book out around major events. Ask for the validity date and hold policy on the quote itself.

Can you negotiate the prices for advertising on a billboard?

Yes, the prices for advertising on a billboard are negotiable, and the biggest levers are booking length, timing and bundling. Longer commitments, off-peak windows and multi-asset packages all earn discounts. Independents and mobile operators usually have more room to tailor packages than the major fixed-site networks.

The quote worth booking

Book the outdoor advertising quote that shows the lowest all-in cost per thousand verified contacts, commits to a report, and states its cancellation terms in writing. That quote may not carry the lowest headline price, but it is the one you can hold the supplier to.

Send us your quotes and we will lay them out on the same five numbers, at no charge. Call Mick at Moving Media on 0417 848 150 or plan your campaign online and get a line-item mobile OOH quote back within a day.
